A browser connects to a website over one protocol at a time, so a single page can’t tell whether you have both IPv4 and IPv6. This test sends two extra requests: one to a hostname with only an A record (reachable only over IPv4) and one to a hostname with only an AAAA record (reachable only over IPv6). Whichever succeeds tells you which protocols your connection really has.

The times shown are measured in your browser and include DNS lookup and connection setup. If the IPv6 request fails while IPv4 works, your connection — or the network you’re on — has no working IPv6. That is still common and doesn’t affect normal browsing.

Veelgestelde vragen

Do I need IPv6?

Not to use the web: every major service still works over IPv4. IPv6 helps when you want devices at home reachable from outside without carrier-grade NAT, and it removes a translation step at your provider.

The test says IPv6 works but my router shows none. How?

Some mobile and tethered connections provide IPv6 to the device directly. Also check whether a VPN is active: many VPNs carry or block IPv6 independently of your router.

Why might both tests fail?

Browser extensions, strict firewalls or DNS filters sometimes block requests to unfamiliar hostnames. Try another browser or network to compare.
